What exactly is Paris Green?
In addition to being the stage name of a fabulous burlesque performer and model you might have seen on such websites as this one, Paris Green is actually a highly toxic form of arsenic. In addition to its use as a poison, the bright emerald green powder was highly admired as a pigment for oil painting, clothing dye and fireworks. A favorite of many Impressionist painters, it is rumored to be the cause of Van Gogh’s madness and Monet’s blindness.
